Funeral Fund for Tom McNary

A close friend of ours, Tom McNary recently passed away. Tom was a homeless US Veteran of limited financial means. Many of his friends are in similar situations. We feel it is important to lay Tom to rest with respect and dignity. Tom was well known, and well liked among the homeless and disabled Veterans in the DC area. It will mean a lot to all of us to know that Tom was not simply disposed of in the most expedient and inexpensive manner possible.

Giving Tom a proper send off will take money. Some assistance will come from the tax payers of Washington DC, and some will come from the Department of Veterans Affairs. The remainder must come from donations. If you would like to assist in this cause, please donate using the following button:

The collected funds will go to R.N. Horton's Funeral Home, 600 Kennedy Street NW, Washington DC, and to other expenses, such as clothes to dress him in. Any money left over will be donated to one or more of the charitable organizations which support disabled Veterans.

Nicholas Shaxson: "Treasure Islands: Uncovering the Damage of Offshore Banking & Tax Havens.

DemocracyNow.org -
As millions of Americans prepare to file their income taxes ahead of Monday's deadline, Democracy Now! interviews British journalist Nicholas Shaxson on how corporations and the wealthy use offshore banks and tax havens to avoid paying taxes and other governmental regulations. "Tax havens have grown so fast in the era of globalization since the 1970s that they have become at the heart of the global economy and are absolutely huge," Shaxson says. "Anywhere between $10 trillion and $20 trillion are sitting offshore. Half the world trade is processed in one way or another through tax havens." Shaxson is the author of the new book, "Treasure Islands: Uncovering the Damage of Offshore Banking and Tax Havens."

On the Dark Side in Al Doura - A Soldier in the Shadows

WARNING: Graphic and disturbing photos between 38:47 and 40:00.
U.S. Army Ranger John Needham, who was awarded two purple hearts and three medals for heroism, wrote to military authorities in 2007 reporting war crimes that he witnessed being committed by his own command and fellow soldiers in Al Doura, Iraq. His charges were supported by atrocity photos which, in the public interest, are now released in this video. John paid a terrible price for his opposition to these acts. His story is tragic.

CBS reported obtaining an Army document from the Criminal Investigation Command suggestive of an investigation into these war crimes allegations. The Army's conclusion was that the "offense of War Crimes did not occur." However, CBS also stated that the report was "redacted and incomplete; 111 pages were withheld."

This video is placed with the context of Vice President, Dick Cheney, insistence that this nation's efforts "must go to the dark side;" which included ignoring the Geneva Conventions.

John's story is told, here, by his father, Michael Needham. It is produced in the spirit of the public interest and towards promoting justice foundational to the rule of law.
